What makes the fit of Fear of God Essentials unique?
The fit of Fear of God Essentials is designed based on the principle of luxury streetwear: loose silhouettes, dropped shoulder seams, and a casual, relaxed appearance. Designer Jerry Lorenzo combines comfort with style, making each item stand out widely without looking sloppy.
What stands out most is the length of the tops and the width of the pants. The hoodies are often shorter in the body but have extra long sleeves. T-shirts are long and wide. Pants are often straight and roomy, with an elastic waistband and adjustable drawstring. This provides a lot of flexibility but can be confusing if you are not familiar with American sizes or unisex fits.
For those familiar with other brands like Yeezy Gap or Off-White basics, the fit of Essentials will feel comfortable. Still, it is important to pay close attention to size choice – Essentials generally fits one size larger than you are used to.
How does an Essentials winter set (hoodie + pants) fit?
A long set from Fear of God Essentials – so a hoodie with matching long pants – fits generously and oversized. The hoodies are cropped in length but very roomy at the chest and shoulders. The sleeves are long, with dropped shoulder seams and elastic cuffs. The fit looks relaxed and fashionable, but can be too wide if you order your normal size.
The pants are also roomy and long, with an elastic waistband and adjustable cords. They fall straight over the leg and have narrow cuffs at the ankles. For most people, it is recommended to choose one size smaller than usual, especially if you don't want an extremely oversized fit. This way, you maintain the distinctive look but prevent the whole from becoming shapeless or baggy.
Normally wear size L? Then you often fit better with an M at Essentials. The oversized look remains, but fits your body shape a bit better.
How does an Essentials summer set (T-shirt + shorts) fit?
The short set from Fear of God Essentials – with an oversized T-shirt and roomy shorts – fits one size larger than you would normally wear, just like the long set. The T-shirt is boxy, has wide sleeves, falls long over the waist, and has a high, fitted neckline. The fit is designed to fall loosely and airy, but can be very long and wide in your standard size.
The shorts have wide legs, fall just above the knee, and feature an elastic waistband with a drawstring. The fabric is soft and light, ideal for warmer days. The shorts also fit generously. In practice, most people choose one size smaller than their usual size to get a nice, comfortable fit without it becoming too loose.
So consciously choose a size smaller than usual, both for the shirt and the shorts, so the set stays nicely in proportion – especially for people under 1.80 meters, this can make a world of difference.
Which size should you choose for Essentials clothing?
Fear of God Essentials uses unisex sizes that fit generously. The general advice is therefore to always choose one size smaller than you normally wear. That size still fits oversized, as the brand intended, but fits the body better and prevents the clothing from feeling excessively large or awkwardly long.
Unsure between two sizes? Then it’s wise to base your choice on your height and shoulder width. For taller people (above 1.85 m), a size smaller often still fits relaxed. For shorter people (under 1.70 m), even a size S or XS is roomy enough. Also consider how you want to wear the clothing – layered with other items, or solo as a statement.
Some collections may fit slightly differently, so always check the size charts and lookbooks with each new drop.
Fit example: this is what our model is wearing
To give you a better idea of how Essentials clothing fits, we photographed a model in both sets. He is 1.82 meters tall and wears size M in both the long and short sets. The photos clearly show how the clothing fits someone with an average athletic build.
In the long set – consisting of a hoodie and sweatpants – you can see that the hoodie fits loosely at the shoulders and chest, while the sleeves are long enough to reach past the wrist.
In the short set – with T-shirt and shorts – the shirt falls long over the waist, with wide sleeves that reach halfway down the upper arm. The shorts fall just above the knee and move smoothly when walking or sitting, without being too tight at the hips or thighs.
